BBC Ariel magazine
Garnett Dickinson Print has been producing the BBC in-house magazine Ariel for more than five years, and the title calls
for the quickest turnaround of a print job that we handle - there are less than six hours between the receipt of data and
despatch.
Files are signed off at around 9pm every Monday night, with the job printing at 10pm on the 48-page Lithoman press. For
this reason, BBC is a perfect customer for Agfa Delano, says systems manager Dave Bonnett: "Delano is ideal for short
turnaround weeklies like Ariel. It puts the files straight back in the customer's hands for approval, and automatically
feeds back any problems to them."
In 2006, Garnett Dickinson additionally produced a special wrap-around cover for the magazine to promote the BBC wildlife
series Planet Earth, resulting in every copy of that issue of Ariel selling out. The magazine's editor Andrew Harvey
commented: "The photography and the quality of the printing by Garnett Dickinson made this a memorable issue of the paper
and, I suspect, a collector's item for many of our readers."
